What We Do

The Asian Youth Forum International organizes and supports activities for the youth, specifically college/university students ages 18-25.

International Youth Summit

Every two years, the AYF International organizes its main international activity, which is the Youth Summit. It is a week-long event where college/university undergraduate students and young leaders of Asia ages 18-25 years old are gathered abroad for a leadership training and cultural exchange.

Participants undergo various training and workshop sessions that highlights two of the core principles of AYF International – youth development and leadership training and culture. Through lectures, group discussions, workshops and group dynamics, the participants are provided the necessary knowledge and skills that will enable them to become leaders. Activities also provide them an environment where they are introduced with various aspects of culture given the different nationalities present in the summit. Through the programme, participants are also acquainted with the culture of their fellow delegates. Field trips and city tours as well as homestays allow them to be immersed in the culture of their host country.

At the end of the programme, participants are asked to speak before a panel of teachers, educators and students who are participating in the summit and the Pan Asian Conference, the host event and committee held simultaneously with the AYF International Youth Summit. They are given the opportunity to talk about certain topics pertaining to social issues and global concerns – what they think of it and the possible solutions they would like to come up with. At the end of every panel discussion, student participants are also asked to draft their own commitment to their communities once they get home. They are asked to come up with their action plans and AYF commitment in order to respond to the social concerns and spread the spirit of the forum.

Previous AYF International Summits have been held in the following Asian countries:

  • AYF 1: Seoul, Korea
  • AYF 2: Kokura, Japan (November 22-25, 2001)
  • AYF 3: Taipei, Taiwan (November 8-11, 2002)
  • AYF 4; Vladivostok, Russia (June 23-28, 2004)
  • AYF 5: Bangkok, Thailand (January 25-29, 2007)
  • AYF6: Tokyo Japan (upcoming Fall 2008)

Local Youth Training Seminars and Conferences

The AYF International inspired its participants to establish their country sections and local groups. At present, the AYF International is currently looking into the possibility of expanding and deepening its thrust to build and strengthen the local sections of AYF. As of date, AYF Philippines has started working locally and beginning 2009, other AYF Country Sections will also be established in order to promote the spirit of the Forum.

AYF International launched its first local youth programme, the Cross-Cultural Leadership Training Seminar through the headship of the AYF Philippines Country Section Team. Twenty carefully selected participants attended the one-day activity filled with lectures and workshop training.
