More than just a meeting of the minds, more than just an interaction of cultures, more than just the use of language to communicate… the Asian Youth Forum is a family.
Probably the most detailed technical description about what AYF is can be found in the site’s ABOUT AYF section. However factual, I believe that this is an understatement.
What makes AYF extremely memorable for me is that it made me understand that beyond the four corners of my house is a bigger and warmer home shared by many other interesting lives. I used to be only Filipino but because of my AYF citizenship, I became a global individual.
Thanks to AYF, I read and watch world news more often than how I used to. It changed my daily routine and how I viewed and cared for the world completely. AYF made me understand that beyond knowing there are other people around the world, there is a need to talk to them, to feel them, and to treat them as a part of my big big big family.
I first joined Asian Youth Forum in 2009 [AYF 7 Manila] when it was held in my home country. In 2010, I joined as a student leader for AYF 8 Seoul. And then in 2011, headed AYF 9 Taipei as youth president. I have joined AYF for three years and there is nothing stopping me from joining it again. Because AYF and the people in it, more than an organization of friends and conference of people, is a warm family always willing to give me the sweetest home I can ever imagine.
